object recognition?

Hey guys,
 
  going on the beobot page, it seems like the object recognition aspect is still in progress. The page was updated in 2010 so I wonder how much has progressed since then. I realized after looking at beobot, that its goals for visual functions are what I'm looking to build as well. Is this something that I can get in on?
