We agree on [[Beobot 2.0/Electrical System/COM_Express|COM Express Module]] form factor 95x125mm in size. Right now the target is Congatec [http://www.congatec.us/bm45-doc.html?&L=6 conga-BM45]. 

It has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz processor with a 1066MHz Front Side Bus (FSB), and have up to 8GB of DDR3 memory. Power consumption 30W@5V.

However, when I called Dave Anderson of PCI embedded.com (daveanderson@pciembedded.com, 209-295-5088), it is only available in Quarter 1, 2009.

We then discover an alternative Congatec [http://congatec.com/b945.html conga-B945]. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz processor with a 667MHz Front Side Bus (FSB), 4GB DDR2 memory. The quote from Dave Anderson was $1200/board if buying less than 10, $1000/board if buying 10/more. The lead time, however, can be up to 10 weeks.
Also, the socket type is mPGA479M, which is not available in [http://www.newegg.com newegg].

So, we looked at Kontron.com '''(888) 294 - 4558''' and looked at [http://us.kontron.com/products/computeronmodules/com+express/etxexpress/etxexpresspc.html ETXexpress-PC] - comparable to conga-BM45 (again available Q1, 2009)- and [http://us.kontron.com/products/computeronmodules/com+express/etxexpress/etxexpressmc.html ETXexpress®-MC]. The latter is available at $706/board for purchases of 25/less without the memories ($80 at newegg).  The lead time is 3 weeks (great).

Also, the socket type is P and lots of processors are available at [http://www.newegg.com newegg], particularly 2.8GHz (although the T9500) for $559 and 2.53GHz for $369 (T9300).

So we are going to go with ETXexpress-MC, but only purchasing 1 or 2 of them.

Called the Kontron people. Referred me to a distributor: WDL systems (here are their [http://www.wdlsystems.com/modperl/view_services.cgi?r=list_aisle.plate&aisle_id=970 prices]: '''1-800-543-2319 ext:513'''.
WDL price is $804 with no memory and lead time is 3 weeks. 

There is no sample/academic price. We have to buy one regular price.

Available ETX-ExpressMC is the '''non-socketed''' version.
