Detailed Description

Rapid computation of the gist of the scene.

This directory contains code for the rapid computation of the gist of a visual scene. In the broad sense, the gist of a scene is what you get from in in a single brief glance; for example that it is indoors, a kitchen, rather colorful. Computationally, we here tend to characterize the gist of a scene as a low-dimensional signature that is characteristic of the entire image. The associated semantic properties of the scene (e.g., indoors vs outdoors) can then be recovered through classification on the signature vector.
